i love chicago! went for the first time twice this year. love the art institute of chicago, of course. my 6 favorite restaurants: xoco for breakfast (mmmm churros & huevos rancheros), gilt bar (pimm's cup & braised pork belly), donut vault (next door to gilt bar...didn't get there, but sure want to try it), old town social (beer, sausage, cheese & roasted brussel sprouts), crisp (korean fried chicken w/ that sauce), and pequod's for deep dish pizza. oh! and bongo room for pancakes or french toast. i love the lincoln park zoo and it's free!
thanks so much anamanzana.
If you have time, you should visit the Christkindlmarket, the annual outdoor German Christmas Market in Daley Plaza (in the loop). It's open from November 23 through Christmas Eve and it definitely gets you in the holiday spirit. You'd probably also like Robin Richman, a designer with a shop in Bucktown (2108 N. Damen)--she's very inspiring. I agree with the previous comment that the french toast at Bongo Room in Wicker Park is amazing! If you feel like a night out, it's fun to see a show at the Double Door or Schubas Tavern. If you're just walking around downtown, it's cool to find all the well known sculptures and murals--I love the Chagall Four Seasons mosaic at the Chase Tower Plaza on Dearborn (also, Chagall's America Windows at the Art Institute). And you must check out Paper Source--I like the Chicago Street location best. And it's not too far from the Water Tower and the Hancock Building (a great view). Have a great trip!
Thanks so much Pamela - fantastic suggestions!! esp. the Robin Richman info + address!Very helpful!
I thought of one more place that might be of particular interest to you--a cool framing and art boutique called Foursided which is up at Clark and Foster in Andersonville. They would love your work, and while it's a bit of a trek up to the north side, Andersonville is a very charming neighbourhood--lots of Swedish delis, bakeries and cute shops, including some great home decor places like White Attic and Scout.
Thanks so much Pamela! Will def check out Foursided. xo
